2014XC: Day 29, July 10 – Grants, New Mexico to Albuquerque, New Mexico
Another sunny day as we left our campsite and hit the highway for the days next adventure…
Short drive day – we decided to visit the “National Museum of Nuclear & Energy Science” in Albuquerque. Neat place – granite blocks in the floor laid out to form and engraved with the Periodic Table of Elements. First we watched the 45 minute video presentation of the history of the first atom bomb. Scary, sad, and very interesting. The rest of the museum was made up of relics and presentations of nuclear and energy derivations and use in all different ways. Some of us watched another video about what happened to the nuclear power plant, Tepco, in Japan after the tsunami a few years ago. We also went outside to see some of the different planes and service equipment on display. Glad we checked it out – it was pretty cool.
We set up camp at the Ballon View RV Park. We do the occasional “KOA”, but most times they are $15-$30 more than most other RV parks. Most times the places we choose are fine. This one was ok, but Steve has a funny story about this place. It was in an industrial part of town, but not too bad but wouldn’t choose it again. It turns out it was more of an extended-stay type of park. The host in the office was such that Steve said if I’d have gone in to setup the reservation, we would have not stayed there. I’m pretty laid back, but I have to agree because I was honestly second guessing it while the kids and I were just waiting outside – two tinted Mercedes in front of the office door, and Steve was in there for a while. Well, regardless, the place was good enough for a night. We headed out for dinner at one of Steve’s favorite restaurant chains in the country to eat, “Rudy’s Country Store & BBQ”.
Food and atmostphere were good – thanks Steve, good choice!
