2014XC: Day 33, July 14 – Spadra Lake, Arkansas to West Memphis, Arkansas

Awesome view this morning when I woke – right out of our camper bedroom window we could see the river.

It’s hard to tell from the pics that we were much higher ground, but here’s a pic of a boat going by and one of the cliff, just for perspective…

So we packed up there and headed towards Memphis, or at least as close as we could get to it traveling. Steve found a campgound called “Tom Sawyers RV Park” in West Memphis, right on the Mississippi River. We were racing a storm in, and we got to the campground just as it hit. We pulled into the site and waited in the truck for it to pass.

The site was really cool. It was right on the Mississippi River, Arkansas side, just downstream from Memphis Tennesee. The river was fast, and all sizes of trees and limbs would randomly float by. And there were barges that sometimes were pushing even up the river – it was something to see. After we set up, we walked around and noticed a “tree house” of sorts, so we all climbed up to watch one of the barges go by. The first pic is the campground, and the second is the barge.

So the only downside here are the mosquitoes. I guess being on the river, it’s just the way it is!
