2016XC: Day 16, June 30 – San Antonio, Texas to Elm Mott, Texas

CampSite: San Antonio/Alamo KOA –to– I35 RV Park

We were planning to leave the KOA and go back into San Antonio city to see The Alamo. We didnt want to park or leave the camper in the city, and fortunately the KOA had a solution – they offered a safe lot on the property where you could leave your trailer after checking out, then come back later for it for $10.00.  Bonus! We headed into the city and found parking. Tyler and Christian both have their favorite sodas, Coke and Pepsi. Tyler was glad to see that Coke seemed more popular in town..

The Alamo was just a few blocks up. There was a line to enter into the main building, originally a church.  We walked through, reading about and looking at artifacts. While in this and other buildings, no pictures were allowed, but outside in the courtyards it was permitted. In the Long Barracks of the Alamo, we watched a movie on the history of The Alamo, and we all enjoyed it. Certainly worth the visit.

On our way back to visit River Walk again, we stopped at Louis Toussads Wax Museum for a pic…

At River Walk, we decided to have our 2nd ever Steak Dinner in Texas, since we all agreed that Texas had the best steaks. Saltgrass Steakhouse was right on the river.  It was no  doubt worth the drive to Texas..

With full and very satisfied bellies, we returned to the KOA to retrieve our camper, then headed towards Waco as we started our way home.

One cool thing – we wound up on a highway with a crazy toll, but just thought I’d snap this pic as a reminder…it’s the highest one in the state….this is probably why!
