2014XC: Day 23, July 4 – Seligman, Arizona (Rte.66 KOA) to Boulder City, Nevada (Callville Bay)
A little more time at the pool this morning before checking out, including Gabriel without his floaties and doing awesome again…
The drive wasn’t too scenic, but we passed lots of small areas with shacks and such. We stopped in Haulapai as we drove through the Indian Reservation for a moment and saw a man painting a monument sign while listening to “God of Wonders” by Third Day.
At one point on our way to “Hoover’s Dam”, as Christian calls it, the temperature showed 105 degrees on our rearview mirror display. Not sure how accurate that is – probably some of the heat coming off the truck might have been raising the temp a bit. The drive was pretty much about the same as the last few places…flat in some spots, hilly in others, and still way hot, but the hill colors became darker and more rugged as we got closer to the Dam.
Lake Mead looked beautiful and deep blue against the dark Black Mountains, and we passed over the Hoover Dam.
There was a little confusion about where our reservations were, with hookups, and what was available to us when we arrived, without hookups. We were hopeful that the temp would drop that night. I think it stayed about 98 degrees the entire night with hardly a breeze. Steve had a good attitude about it, but the rest of us considered it THE low-light of the trip. In the end, I suppose some of us needed to be reminded of how blessed we truly were for most of this trip. 😉
