2016XC: Day 20, July 4 – Gadsen, Alabama to Sweetwater, Tennessee
CampSite: River Country RV Park –to– Sweetwater KOA
Gabriel is our morning guy – he’s up for anything, and always ready to start the day early while the other boys are just snoring their mornings away. We walked to the marina to check it out. Most of the boats there were flat bottom boats, and after our trip to the swamp, I’m guessing the water levels can be unpredictable. They were cool boats.
Then Gabriel wanted to visit the playground.
Back to the camper to gather up the boys and hit the pool.
Since it was the 4th of July, we thought about staying here another night since we’d heard there was a pretty good display to be seen from the pool. But, “some” of the boys were getting tired of traveling and wanted to get home, so we obliged and got back on the road. I was able to take a shot of the campground pools as we drove past…
Pretty cool!
We were about to go passed Noccalulu State Park on our way to Tennessee. Steve had tried to book us there for the previous night but they were full, so we thought we’d swing by an check it out anyway perhaps for another time. It was a really pretty place (but River Country had a pool and this place didn’t). So there were the Falls, which was the main draw for the park. The legend is supposedly true, and says that a young Cherokee girl jumped to her death over the promise of her hand in marriage to a warrior of an enemy tribe. It’s a sad love story, but a beautiful 80ft. waterfall!
Next stop, Sweetwater KOA in Tennessee for a campfire dinner…
Many of the places we stayed at didn’t have fire rings or allow campfires at all. First we cooked a steak on the fire-pit for dinner.
Then we lit some sparklers in honor of 4th of July…
and finally, we got to make s’mores, and attempt the “Jared Challenge” by puffing our marshmallows up as big as we could…
Tomorrow is our last planned excursion for this trip: The Lost Sea…
