2014XC: Day 3, June 14 – Iowa
After driving all day yesterday, we were happy to be able to wake and have no driving itinerary today. There was a big water park across from the campsite we stayed at but it didn’t seem warm enough outside to spend the whole day there, and it was really windy. So instead, we just decided to hang with the “Freedom Express” (formerly known as Lil’ White!) and around the campsite.
The place we were at was called the “Bamboo Ridge” KOA. It was pretty new, and not many people there. When we arrived late last night, the attendant was nice enough to give us an escort. The campground had a good size pond with a small island and veranda, and a walkway around it. There was a beach area leading into the water, so they went swimming.
Later we took a family trip to Wal-Mart! What better way to make the day awesome? 😉
We made a nice dinner …
… then we took a walk around the pond and stopped at the cool playground.
We’d hoped to have a campfire, but it was too windy until later when we’d already decided to watch a movie together. We were trying to stream the movie “RV” but we had some trouble. Earlier at Wal-Mart we picked up “Vacation” so thought we’d watch that instead. I read the reviews from Plugged-In Movie Reviews for RV but didn’t bother to do it for Vacation. It showed an “R” rating on the sleeve, but I thought between Steve and I seeing it so many times, we knew what to lecture the kids about before hand and when to mute it. Well, as it turns out, we must have always seen it on regular television when Steve and I saw it, because we were totally surprised by all the stuff we didn’t remember ever hearing or seeing! I mean, it wasn’t awful, and not anything they’ve already heard on the bus, but still! At least, the rest of the trip we can repeat funny lines from the movie together and we can all laugh (minus the bad stuff, of course!).
All in all, it turned out to be a relaxing evening before another day of all-day travel.
